Our aim is to strike a balance between the needs of business to increase revenue and decrease costs, with a drive for constant and never ending improvement for becoming more green to help customers, staff, suppliers, shareholders and the whole planet.
The Perfect Storm
We have all been effected by the sudden change in economic circumstances known as the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), and it is possible that there are more disruptions to come.
In many ways the changes have been so fast and dramatic that we have taken our collective eye from the other challenges that we were beginning to recognise, in the form of Climate Change and Peak Oil.
In addition, hoped for cures such as the growing of biofuels could lead to land and water becoming very Scarce Resources if land that is needed for growing food and regulating the environment is commandeered for energy production.
It is these challenges together that create a Perfect Storm of conditions, that will effect all of the Earth's 6 billion and rapidly growing population...
We can make a difference...
This website is aimed at those who wish to understand more and want to make a difference. Individuals can make changes as well as influencing their households and businesses.
Let's take an example. In the sixties and seventies bars, restaurants and many offices were filled with cigarette smoke. If it had been suggested that smoking be banned in these venues a majority of the population would have felt that they were having something taken away. Now if there was a proposal to restore smoking to these areas the majority would feel that they were losing out by having their air quality interfered with.
These changes in perception happen over time and there has undoubtedly been a growing awareness of the importance of the environment to our health and well being. The challenges now are whether the changes in perceptions and methods will be fast enough, and whether somehow the environment and the economy are in competition.
Let's look at another simple example that shows that they do not have to be. In hotels it is now common to have a small sign in the bathroom that says that if you want fresh towels you can put the used ones on the floor for replacement. However if you feel they are fine then hang them up and this will save the unnecessary use of water and electricity for cleaning. Users have the choice, it is not compulsory. Those that do decide to keep their towels help save the environment, but also it saves costs for the hotel which can be reinvested for the benefit of customers, staff or owners. If an unused towel is washed needlessly it is waste and therefore a loss for everyone.
Just as in this simple example, if human ingenuity recognises and is focused on the challenges then there is the opportunity to have better lives - even if they are different to what we currently take as being the norm.
Why the name "Sunshine n Water "?
Sunshine and water are core elements to our existence, our method of living and our happiness.
